Privcap: The private equity market needs liquidity but paths to exits around the world remain challenging.  What can GPs do to improve their chances of success?

Sachin Date, EY: I think private equity houses and businesses, portfolio companies need to stop thinking about exits very differently and preparing for exit very differently than they have done so in the past. The days of an easy exit, where you hired an investment bank and the exit happened by process are no longer there. You have to cast your net much wider in terms of where the buyer may come from and how you deal with that buyer that is not familiar with auction processes is also going to be a challenge for the industry. And so we think that the industry needs to spend much more time thinking, planning, and preparing for an exit than it has been able to do in the past.
