Fund Four and Ready for More

Few Brazilian general partners are on Fund Four today; Sidney Chameh is one of them. Privcap interviews Chameh, Founding Partner of DGF Investimentos, about his firm’s current investment opportunities in Brazil.

“Today, DGF Investimentos is no longer a first-time manager, first-time fund. Now, we have something to tell. We have a very compelling story. The team has been working together for a long time and now investors are starting to pay attention. And we are showing results,” says Chameh.

In this conversation, we ask Chameh two questions: “What is the strategy of your private equity firm, DGF Investimentos?” and “Do international investors understand the Brazilian opportunity today?”

Privcap: What is the strategy of your private equity firm, DGF Investimentos?

Sidney Chameh, DGF Investimentos: DGF is a Brazilian GP.  We have ten years of life. We manage currently 300 U.S. We just raised funded number four.  Although for vehicles, we have a small amount within the first funds.  So now the company has evolved a little bit more.

We don’t do anything else but private equity; this is important.  This is an important source of a land of interest with the investors.  We have a very good team that has been working together for the last eight to ten years.  Together we’ve invested in more than twenty companies with cycles, with exits.  So, I think we are in good shape.

We started with early stage, now we are more of growth capital.  We like sectors like IT, media, telecom, health, service, but we look for good opportunities.  By applying a very disciplined investment process, we call to attention the most important Brazilian investors.  We have PREVI, the biggest pension fund; Petrus; FUNCEF; BNDS; FINEP; among other investors.

From abroad we have the inter-development American bank.  We don’t have any other name yet, but we are thinking of fundraising this second semester of the year because, again, we are in very good moment.  We have a strong pipeline- very well-built connections, network.  I think the company is doing very good.

Privcap: Do international investors understand the Brazilian opportunity today?

Chameh: I think so.  I have good samples of better understanding.  Today DGF Investimentos is no longer a first time manager, first time fund.  So, now we have something to tell.  We have a very compelling story.  The team has been working together for a long time and now investors are starting to pay attention.  And we are showing results.

We just sold a software company to the Thompson Writer’s Group, an agent group.  We made a fantastic return to our investors, so the international investors can talk to the Brazilian investors and learn that we are fully dedicated to this business and we are delivering good returns and we are expecting to do more of the same.
